DVSA support employees with financial education and wellbeing training from FinWELL……
The FinWELL Team are delighted to be supporting employees at the DVSA.
Many employers know they need to do more to support their employees around financial education and wellbeing but are unsure how or where to start.
The FinWELL Kick Off Launch Workshop is proving an excellent option as more than 100 employers have used it to get started with workplace financial wellbeing.
This was also the case for Claire Galbraith and the team at DVSA (Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency) who are part of DfT - Department For Transport.
What is the Workshop all about?
Head of Training Justine Piercy shared, “The session is designed to create a really relaxed, friendly and informal environment acting as a ‘psychologically safe space’ for employees and leadership teams to come together and start conversations around money.”
Justine continued, “There’s a lot of stigma and sensitivity around talking about money so this gives people the opportunity to interact and engage in an anonymous way while building their knowledge, understanding and confidence around money matters along life’s financial journey.”
It’s becoming more important than ever for employers to measure impact and demonstrate return on investment so FinWELL have an innovative way to achieve this for employers of all sizes and sectors.
Justine went on to explain, “One of the things we created when we started almost four years ago, was a way for anyone and everyone to measure their own financial wellbeing using our FinWELL Money Scores. They can then go on to establish their areas of interest and personal FinWELL Goals creating a simple plan of action to take back FinWELL PAWA (pronounced power).”
This gives all attendees a really practical take-away from the session with clear next steps and hopefully feeling empowered to take action.
How does this help the employer?
Justine shared how this also helps employers, “As-well as being an extremely important employee benefit for their teams, we also gather data insights that can be presented back to the company clearly demonstrating the pain points, commons areas of focus and appetite for various levels of support which can help them start to build a data driven, inclusive and personalised financial education and wellbeing programme.”
There really is no one-size-fits-all approach as FinWELL have learnt that there are unique challenges depending on sector and employee demographics including the split between office and non-desk based, harder to reach workforces.
Justine added, “We’ve worked with all sorts of employers so have developed in-person training and support for the likes of construction, rail, transport, logistics, retail and hospitality. We’ve also learnt what the biggest challenges are for each age bracket so can tailor our programmes accordingly explore options to include a balance of group workshops, online/in-person, 1-1 sessions, leadership training and access to our online FinWELL Learning Academy.”
How can employers actually measure impact and demonstrate return on investment?
Justine is excited to share the latest campaign which is the ‘BIG FinWELL Workplace Savings Challenge!’ She explains, “Research has shown us that one of the biggest areas of concern is a lack of financial resilience. This means that most employees have little to no savings or emergency funds which can hugely increase financial pressures leading to additional stress, anxiety and even affect mental health and wellbeing. “We’re teaming up with various providers so that employers can implement free, pay-roll based workplace savings schemes and help them maximise engagement and track levels of uptake and impact.
Claire from the DVSA was thrilled with the initial kick off session and shared, “The workshop was so interesting and easy to follow up with useful information and resources to use afterwards. Financial Education is such an important and fundamental, although often overlooked, aspect of wellbeing that is intrinsically linked to our physical and mental health.”
